After the rest day following the transfer from Denmark to Italy, the team time trial in Verona was on the programme of the Giro d'Italia 2012 today.
The timed effort was won by Garmin-Barracuda, thus handing to Ramunas Navardauskas the pink jersey of the leader of the general classification!
The summary of stage 4/ Verona > Verona of the Giro d'Italia 2012This morning before the start, 9 seconds separated the leader of the general classification, Taylor Phinney, of his first competitor, Geraint Thomas (Team Sky).
13 seconds separated him from the best placed rider of the favourite team of this team time trial, Alex Rasmussen of the Garmin-Barracuda team, who was 3rd this morning.
The first team to start was the French team AG2R La Mondiale, at 3.25PM, followed every 3 minutes by another team, up to BMC Racing Team at 4.28PM.
The most remarkable facts of this team time trial were the fact that the best placed rider in the opening time trial of this Giro d'Italia couldn't follow his team, thus leaving the second best placed rider of the American team the honour to benefit from the time of this team in the race against the clock, and the big time loss for BMC Racing Team when Taylor Phinney and some of his team mates got off the road in a turn and rode on the grass for a few meters!
The best thing is most probably to watch all the action in the following video! The classifications of the Giro d'Italia after the 4th stage
