The "DDE" truck
The DDE (Direction Départementale de l'Equipement) is responsible for the good quality of the roads the Tour de France riders pass on. Therefore, this truck a few kilometers in front of the riders has a big brush on the front (in use on this picture) to remove any stones and other stuff from the road and a big water tank on the back to spray water on the road if the top layer is melting due to high temperatures.
