La Primavera, the nickname for Milan-Sanremo, already started at 10:00 this morning, but we're taking advantage of the length of this classic of classics (another of its nicknames, La Classicissima, linked to its exceptional length: it's the longest professional one-day race) to publish in extremis the course of Milano-Sanremo 2024 on Open Street Maps and in Google Earth, so that you can find out all about the 288 kilometers that the riders of this Italian classic are currently covering!

In this article, you'll discover the route of Milano-Sanremo 2024 on an Open Street Maps map, the hourly race itinerary and its profile showing the various bumps, particularly in the second half of the course. Finally, you'll find a KML file enabling you to explore the Milan-Sanremo 2024 course in Google Earth, for example, with a virtual flyover!

The Milan-Sanremo 2024 route on Open Street Maps

A change to the Milan-Sanremo route for this 2024 edition, the 115th edition of the name (!), occurred at the start of the race. The start in Milan is gone (as was already the case in 2023, but then in Abbiategrasso) and has been relocated to Pavia, on the Piazza Cavagneria. An eastward excursion of 44 kilometers before rejoining the usual course in Casteggio has brought the distance of this race to 288 kilometers, exactly the same as that which awaited the 33 participants at the start in Milan on Sunday April 14, 1907 for the very first edition!

From there, it's south-west to Voghera and Tortona, then Nova Ligure. From Basaluzzo, the riders descend to the south, via Ovada and Campo Ligure, where the race begins to get tougher, with the ascent of the Passo del Turchino.

This is followed by a flat section by the sea, taking in Arenzano, Varazze, Savona, Finale Ligure, Ceriale and Laigueglia, before tackling the last, usually livelier, part of the race. On its way, the peloton finds a series of three capi, Capo Mele, Capo Cervo and Capo Berta, before returning to the more familiar climbs of Cipressa and Poggio. At the top of the last of these, there are just 5.4 kilometers to go before the finish in Sanremo, where we'll see either a sprint finish from a reduced peloton, or a battle between a few riders in a breakaway, or a solo breakaway... Who will succeed Mathieu van der Poel? Perhaps it will be himself? We'll find out today around 5.00 p.m.
