May has come fast, and after the classics season you've been following on velowire.com, it's already time to turn to the Grand Tours ... and more precisely to Italy for the Giro d'Italia or Tour of Italy. The 2024 edition kicks off this Saturday, May 4 in Turin, and a total of 3,400.8 km is on the programme for the 176 riders representing the 22 teams at the start of this Giro d'Italia 2024.
After the start in Turin, the race heads south on the west side of the country, passing through the center on stages 7 (the first individual time trial) and 8 after completing a stage with dirt roads on stage 6, then heading down the west side again as far as Naples. After the rest day, the race crosses the country definitively from west to east, without having reached the foot of the boot. It then climbs back on the east side to the second time trial on stage 14 in the north-central part of the country, as well as stage 15. The day after the second rest day, stage 16 heads even further east, but stage 19 is the most easterly of this Giro d'Italia. Stage 20 takes place north of Venice, before the same somewhat incomprehensible transfer to the city of Rome as last year, where a loop stage closes this 107th edition of the Giro d'Italia!
In this article you'll find all the details of this route, with OpenStreetMap maps, stage profiles and time- and route schedules. The route of the Giro d'Italia 2024 will no longer hold any secrets for you!

The penultimate stage of the Giro d'Italia 2024 is divided into two parts: the first part is fairly flat, with only the short but steep Muro di Ca del Poggio and the Posagno sprint, but it's when the riders arrive on the circuit they ride twice before heading for the finish that things get tough! On the circuit they start from Semorzo del Grappa, they find the 1st category Monte Grappa climb (^ 1675 m / 18.1 km at 8.1%), which they climb twice. On the downhill side of the climb is another small climb, towards what will be the bonus sprint to Il Pianaro on the second run (in the profile below, it's wrongly indicated as the first run, sorry!). Once again, a convoluted course awaits them, beginning with a virtually straight line to the seaside at Lido di Castel Fusano, where they will then turn around to follow the same route in the opposite direction back up to the starting point, then continue a little further north before reaching a circuit in the center of Rome, where the final finish will take place after 9 crossings of the finish line (they complete 8 laps of a 9,5 km (compared with 13.6 km last year) after the first pass; At the 3rd and 7th passes they will compete in the intermediate and bonus sprints respectively, while at the 5th pass on Piazza Venezia they will compete in the Intergiro sprint).Below you'll find the itinerary, profile and OpenStreetMap of the 21st stage of the Giro d'Italia 2024.
