Ahead of Dwars door Vlaanderen / A Travers la Flandre next Wednesday and the eagerly awaited Tour of Flanders on Sunday next week, the next Belgian classic on the programme is Ghent-Wevelgem ... which actually takes place between Ypres (Ieper) and Wevelgem!

In this article, you'll find details of the route of Ghent-Wevelgem 2025 (or officially Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields), on an OpenStreetMap map and also available for download in Google Earth, the hourly route, the profile, as well as the list of starters for the Belgian race.

From the start in Ypres, the route heads east towards Kortrijk, before returning to Moorslede. It's here that we've chosen to alternate the color black for burgundy on the map, because for a short stretch, the riders will take the same road as on the outward journey, but this time in the opposite direction. The race then heads up the coast on a fairly flat, but potentially windy, course as far as Veurne and Adinkerke, before returning close to Ypres and heading for the hill country.

Here we first find the Scherpenberg & Baneberg duo, followed by a first ascent of another duo, the Monteberg and the Kemmelberg by its less difficult side (Belvedère), before heading via Kemmel and Messines to the 3 plugstreets, Hill 63, Christmas Truce and The Catacombs.

Returning to the hill country, we finish the burgundy-red section on the map, to continue on the green section, with first the Monteberg and Kemmelberg duo (Belvedère), but this time the riders turn left at Kemmel, to go back for the other duo, that of Scherpenberg & Baneberg.

Crossing over to the last section, the orange section on the map, they find the Kemmelberg on the final climb, but this time by its more difficult side (Ossuaire). Via Ypres and Menen they then head for the finish in the Vanackerestraat at Wevelgem. As usual, the distance between the last climb and the finish is just under 35 kilometers, leaving plenty of time for sprinters to come back and fight for victory, but the race has also seen small-group finishes before, with Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte in 2023 and the duo of Mads Pedersen and Mathieu van der Poel last year!

The list of starters for Ghent-Wevelgem 2025

At the time of initial publication of this article, the definitive list of starters was not yet known, but the provisional entry list shows several candidates for victory. In addition to outgoing winner Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and his sprinter team-mate Jonathan Milan, there's Jasper Philipsen for Alpecin-Deceuninck (Mathieu van der Poel is not taking part), but also Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) and Olav Kooij (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), who could be involved in the sprint (if that's the race scenario that emerges), provided they have recovered from their crashes in the chaotic Classic Brugge-De Panne.

In another scenario, riders like Joshua Tarling or Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) could show up, or even the hard-charging sprinter Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), to mention but a few... The winner of Ghent-Wevelgem 2025 will be announced late Sunday afternoon (the finish is scheduled between 4:13 and 4:44 pm)!
