Since a few days the Caisse d'Epargne cycling team website has disappeared ... but that's only so it can come back in a much better form soon!
Indeed, on 28 January - a few days after the Tour Down Under (and the day after the 2009 team presentation for AG2R La Mondiale) - the Caisse d'Epargne cycling team will not only present the new team for 2009 but also its completely revised web site. And that is what Alejandro Valverde himself announces on the Caisse d'Epargne web site ... not in translated Spanish but ... in French!!
The new web site apparently uses the content management system (CMS) Joomla!. It's not my favourite CMS (of course not, I prefer my own developments ;-), but it's open source and quite a lot of sites use it so it can't be that bad either ...
The new version of the site will most probably use a lot less Flash to get access to the contents of the site (yes!) (video clips on the site will probably still be published in Flash but that of course is a useful use of Flash) .. and a better integration of the blog with the rest of the site. Indeed, the team regularly updates a blog during its races and training camps on which we can discover the daily life of the members of the team (riders and staff) ... always interesting to discover what happens behind the scenes of such a team!
Concerning the new composition of the team we will probably see 4 arrivals with the Costa Rican Andrey Amador (22 years old, date of birth 29 August 1986), the Portuguese Rui Alberto Faria Da Costa (22 years old as well, date of birth 5 October 1986) who comes from the Portuguese team SL Benfica, the Frenchman Arnold Jeannesson (also 22 years old, date of birth 16 January 1986 ... so he'll be 23 tomorrow) who comes from Auber 93 (from which Caisse d'Epargne already took Mathieu Drujon in 2008) and finally the Spanish neo-professional Angel Madrazo Ruiz (20 years old, date of birth 17 September 1988) who was a trainee at Saunier Duval-Scott / Scott American Beef in 2008.
4 new riders for 3 riders who left the team: Joan Horrach Rippoll and Vladimir Karpets have left the Spanish team with a French sponsor to see what the new Russian team Katyusha (new team based on the Italo-Russian team Tinkoff) will bring them and the French man Fabien Patanchon who apparently hasn't found a new team ...
On 28 January we will thus be able to discover the new team and the new web site. door Thomas Vergouwen
