Yesterday it was a rest day in the Vuelta a España 2009, so that gave me some time to prepare an article on another topic ... Early this week the French cycling federation, the Fédération Française de Cyclisme (FFC), announced its new logo.
This logo will first appear on the shirts of the riders who are selected for the World Championships in Mendrisio.

The new logo of the Fédération Française de Cyclisme

The new president of the FFC, David Lappartient, announced in his programme that he would like to create a new visual identity for the FFC to get a coherent look for all federal information and to create a local version of the identity for the different Committees.

The agency Leroy Tremblot, specialised in the definition of a corporate look for sports and events, was asked to develop this logo. 6 months after Lappartient's appointment the result is now available!

the FFC's new logoAccording to the FFC the logo reflects the values of the Olympic sport, on top level, of speed and performance.

The 3D effect indeed makes the cyclist in the logo get out of it and the form of the cyclist indeed reflects speed and top level sport.

the FFC's old logoThe logo looses some colour compared to the previous version (see the old logo on the left hand side) to adopt the colours of France with bleu, white and red. The name of the federation is now written in full in the logo.

According to CBNews, the agency added that the blue line, of which the colour represents France, is the finish line and that the red represents passion and energy.

The only thing the FFC now has to do is rejuvenate its website!

The new logo at the World Championships in Mendrisio

At the World Championships in Mendrisio, which will take place from 23 till 27 September, the French riders will wear the new logo on their shirt.

Laurent Jalabert, responsible for the French selection, has announced his selection for the World Championships last Sunday. He explained that this choice was based on information he gathered over the past few months:
- in June he went to see the two routes (time trial and road) in Mendrisio together with Bernard Boureau, responsible for the selection of the espoirs: I than saw that the race will be very difficult, especially for the road race with no less than 262km with 4655m positive height difference.
Based on this information I came to a standard profile of a rider who's capable to play an important role after more than 200 kilometers

- he than analysed the qualities of different riders and their results in 2009 and whether they are capable to prepare for such an important goal; based on this he made a first selection of 16 riders after the Tour de France
- and in August he looked at their end of season programme, their freshness and motivation

The selection was announced now to allow the riders to prepare themselves for this new goal, but Laurent Jalabert reserves the right to make changes, especially when their fitness would change before 15 September (the date on which the Fédération Française de Cyclisme must communication its final selection to the Union Cycliste Internationale).

His selection is as follows:
- time trial men (Thursday 24 September 2009, 11h30 - 17h00)
> Jérôme Coppel (Française des Jeux)
> Jean-Christophe Peraud (Le Creusot)

- road race men (Sunday 27 September 2009, 10h30 - 17h30)
> Pierrick Fédrigo (Bbox Bouygues Telecom)
> Thomas Voeckler (Bbox Bouygues Telecom)
> Sylvain Chavanel (QuickStep)
> Dimitri Champion (Bretagne Schuller)
> Christophe Le Mevel (Française des Jeux)
> Christophe Riblon (AG2R La Mondiale)

The selection for the ladies has been announced as well:
- time trial ladies (Wednesday 23 September 2009, 14h00 - 17h15)
> Jeannie Longo (AS Palais Sports Alpexpo)

- road race ladies (Saturday 26 September 2009, 09h00 - 12h30)
> Jeannie Longo (AS Palais Sports Alpexpo)
> Edwige Pitel (AS Palais Sports Alpexpo)
> Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (Vision 1 Racing)
> Karine Gautard-Roussel (Vienne Futuroscope)
> Julie Krasniak (UC Bassin Houiller)
> Sophie Creux (ESGL 93 - GSD Gestion)

The selection for the Espoirs will be announced after the Tour de l'Avenir (which will start on Saturday 5 and finish on Sunday 13 September 2009).
