It was a wish since many years for the UCI to continue to extend the UCI ProTour outside of Europe. That's now done with the two new one day cycling races which will take in Canada: the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec today and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on Sunday 12 September.

In this article you'll find the race route of these two races on Google Maps (an exclusivity for www.velowire.com) and you can download a KML file to see the circuit in Google Earth and thus do a virtual fly-over of these two new races. You'll also find the list of participating riders.

The organisor of the Grands Prix Cyclistes in Canada

The two Grands Prix Cyclistes of Québec and of Montréal are organised by the Groupe Serdy of owner Serge Arsenault who before organised the Grand Prix Cycliste des Amériques (Coupe du Monde 1988-1992) and the Tour cycliste Trans-Canada (1999). These races disappeared quite quickly but Serge Arsenault doesn't give up ... Since the UCI immediately awarded him the UCI ProTour status, these races will have a better chance to succeed!
The Canadian organisor declared recently to L'Equipe: I'm doing this for the riders. They don't even know me, I remain anonymous. I'm not doing this for the money, I've earned enough of that. Now I want to give it back (to cycling). For me cycling equals to friendship.

According to the official website of these races, Groupe Serdy is a Québec-based company comprising the Évasion television network, production company Serdy Vidéo, Studios idHD and a division responsible for organizing international events including the Grands Prix Cyclistes in Québec City and Montréal, which are cycling road races sanctioned by UCI ProTour. Building on the strength of this alliance of complementary operations, Groupe Serdy provides services ranging from TV series and program concept creation to leasing of shooting locations, TV production and post-production sites, advertising creation, distribution and events management.

Serge Arsenault is supported by Charly Mottet, who until the takeover of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré by ASO was the deputy director of this stage race, as manager sports of these new races.

Below you'll find the circuit on Google Maps (which thus joins the collection of Google Maps/Google Earth routes of the different cycling races) for these two races.

Currently this map automatically shows the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec Montréal but if you zoom out and move the map north east, you'll find the circuit of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec on the same map.

The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec proposes a 12.6 kilometer long circuit which will be run 15 times for a total distance of 189 kilometer while the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal will have 16 rounds on a 12.1 kilometer long circuit for a total distance of 193.6 kilometers.
