Castelli, provider of the Cervélo TestTeam in 2009 and 2010, will continue its sponsoring of a professional cycling team in 2011, and even until 2013. That will be with Slipstream Sports, the team born from the merger of Garmin-Transitions and what remained of Cervélo TestTeam, which will be known as Garmin-Cervélo in 2011.

Castelli, the brand with the scorpion
The Castelli brand, which logo is a white scorpion on a red background, first came to market in 1876 already and is present in the cycling world since the 1910's.Today the brand is part of the Manifattura Valcismon, which is also behind the Sportful brand which dresses the Saxo Bank team.
In 2009 the brand became the clothing sponsor of Cervélo TestTeam and thus provided the very nice black and red kit (and for the Tour the white/red kit) but with the end of this team, this sponsoring could also have stopped ...
Castelli sponsors Garmin-Cervélo from 2011 till 2013
However, the Italian brand today announced that it signed a 3 year contract with the Garmin-Cervélo team (Slipstream Sports) pour to dress the men's team but also the women's team, under 23 team and junior team.Not really surprising by the way if you knew of this photo, taken on 28 October, and you see the mention of 2011 on the Cervélo file!
Castelli sees this new collaboration with the American team mostly as a development opportunity: This multi-year agreement to provide clothing to all levels gives us continued access to valued input from the world's top pros, both men and women. We have created a joint research and development program working with Robby Ketchell, the team's Sport Science Director, and we have outlined an innovation agenda focused on making the athletes as fast as possible in every racing condition (aerodynamics should thus play an important role in the upcoming innovations).
By doing so the looks will not be forgotten either since Castelli says it wants to continue to have the best-looking kit in the peloton as well.
What's interesting with Castelli is that the brand does everything it can to develop clothing adapted to every single type of situation. It today's press release, Castelli thus reminds that it will continue to refine striking new technologies designed to improve performance both by reducing aerodynamic drag and by helping the athletes perform well in all conditions. Castelli shows it has perfectly understood the prioritys of a professional cycling team when it indicates this is goes from the cold of Belgium in March to the heat of France in July .
Jonathan Vaughters, Slipstream Sports's manager also indicated behing very happy with this 3 year running partnership: We pride ourselves on working with our sports science team and our partners create new technologies that will help us compete at the highest level, ethically. We are fortunate to have some of the best athletes in the sport and with this partnership, we will have the most aerodynamic clothing for them.

Castelli will dress the World Champion, Thor Hushovd
The new World Champion, Thor Hushovd, who didn't really get many occasions to show off his rainbow jersey since he came back from Australia early October, will be part of the Garmin-Cervélo team next year. The scorpion brand will thus have the additional task to develop and produce a rainbow version of the Garmin-Cervélo kit in 2011 to dress the Norwegian rider.They are also working on a new design for the "ordinary" kit of the team since they announce that this will accentuate the technical advantages of the kit and will be unveiled in 2011.
