This morning the 17th stage of the Tour de France 2011 started in Gap, the city where yesterday's stage also finished.

Before the start, a official ceremony takes place on the signature podium in order to hand out the trophee from Digital for best team to the team which is top ranked in the teams classification.

In this article you'll be able to discover what such a ceremony looks and sounds like, but you'll also find a video of the stage start towards Pinorolo in Italy!

The prize-giving ceremony for best team to Garmin-Cervélo

After each stage there's not only an individual classification, a points classification, a mountain and best young rider classification but also a teams classification. This classification, measured in time, is based on the sum of the times of the three best riders of each team in each stage and is thus known after the finish of the three best riders of each of the teams at the end of each stage.

Did you know that it's hardly possible to get together the whole team for the official ceremony to hand out the corresponding prize? Indeed, all riders of the team must be present and this would allow the teams to leave from the start early if the prize was to be distributed immediately after the finish. That's why this prize is handed out only the following morning, during the signature ceremony on the podium, with Daniel Mangeas watching it.

Currently, it's the Garmin-Cervélo team which is leading this classification and which thus received the corresponding prize at the start in Gap this morning. I filmed the whoule prize giving ceremony and I thus invite you to discover it in the below video!

I also filmed the start of this 17th stage in Gap for you! The stage start was giving with the French Gendarmerie watching it, but also with the Italian Polizia since the stage would finish in Pinerolo in the province of Turin.
