The official team presentation for 2008

In her newsletter the Caisse d'Epargne cycling team announced its official 2008 team presentation for Wednesday 9 January.

In the image used for this announcement the faces of the riders have been hidden and the text around the image says Rendez-vous on Wednesday 9 January to discover the team's new faces ... but those new faces (and the riders who left the team) will of course no longer be a surprise:
  • the new riders:
    - Mathieu Drujon who comes from Auber 93 (France, 1 February 1983)
    - Anthony Charteau who leaves Crédit Agricole after two seasons (France, 4 June 1979)
    - Fabien Patanchon who comes from Francaise des Jeux (France, 14 June 1983)
    - Arnaud Coyot who was free to go from Unibet.com (France, 6 October 1980)
    - José Rujano Guillen also from Unibet.com (Venezuela, 18 February 1982)
    - Rigoberto Uran again from Unibet.com (Colombia, 26 January 1987)

    - Marlon Alirio Perez Arango who currently changes team every year and leaves Team Universal Caffe for Caisse d'Epargne (Colombia, 10 January 1976)
  • Nicolas Portal who sees his brother Sébastien leave the team for Cofidisthe riders who left the team:
    - Marco Fertonani fired after having been tested positive on doping
    - Eric Berthou who will be at the Vélo Club de Paris ... better known as Crédit Agricole in 2008
    - Florent Brard who will be at the Cofidis team in 2008
    - Sébastien Portal who leaves his brother (photo), also to go to Cofidis
    - Vicente Reynes who thought leaving for T-Mobile but that has become Team High Road in the mean time
    - Ruben Plaza who joins the Portuguese team Benfica

The interesting thing in this image are not the hidden faces of the riders but what you see when you look at it more closely ... on the shirt and the bib shorts of the riders you'll see parts which have been blurred and blacked out on places where they first were white and showed a sponsor logo.
This either means that this is a very old picture on which the Illes Balears logo was still visible or that the riders are wearing the new 2008 outfit with a new co-sponsor ! Although the blurring operation didn't help much to make it invisible it unfortunately was enough to make it impossible to recognise ... :-(

Alejandro Valverde becomes daddy for the first time ... of twins!

The team's website also announces that Alejandro Valverde and his wife Ángela saw the stork passing by: in the Virgen de la Vega hospital in Murcia Iván (2,53 kg) and Alejandro (2,83 kg) were born at 10h40 and 10h45.
