The second stage of Paris-Nice 2022 ended in a sprint, but not without the wind taking its role to reduce the number of pretendants!
In the end it was Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) who took the victory, while Christophe Laporte finished almost immediately behind him, thus maintaining his leader position in the general classification. The French rider of the Dutch Jumbo-Visma team will thus again wear his yellow jersey tomorrow!

The summary of the second stage of Paris-Nice 2022: Auffargis > Orléans
It was between Auffargis in the Yvelines and Orléans in the Loiret department that the second stage of Paris-Nice 2022 took place this afternoon.Matthew Holmes (Lotto Soudal) rapidly did exactly the same what he did yesterday, right from the start of the stage, attacking to break away, this time to go defend his polka dot jersey of the king of the mountains classification on the Côte des Dix-sept Tournants of which the summit was at less than 10 kilometers from the start. This time he was joined by his team mate Philippe Gilbert and Alexis Gougeard (B&B Hotels-KTM) and together, this leading trio started creating a real gap, which went up to 3'35" while Holmes took the maxium number of points in the first difficulty but also on the Côte de Choisel (km 18).
The peloton decided to let them go and after about sixty kilometers in the race, the gap was up to 6 minutes! The wind didn't leave the peloton behind them quiet though and several echelons got formed due to the sidewind breaking the peloton up in groups. A first group of about fourty riders including the distinctive jerseys started little by little to get back on the leading trio.
The second group managed to get back on the first group but another groups of riders was already one minute behind when the leading trio was taken back at kilometer 95. Being at the head of the race again allowed Christophe Laporte, yellow jersey of the race, to win the second intermediate sprint and thus 3 bonus seconds.
The first group, even though it lost some of its members, managed to stay ahead and while Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Easypost) launched a final attack at 7 kilometers from the finish, the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team didn't want to lose the opportunity to dispute a sprint and at 2 kilometers from the finish the adventure of the Swiss riders was thus over.
And that was a good idea for the Belgian team because in the sprint it was finally Fabio Jakobsen who won, ahead of Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte who remains the leader in the general classification!
