When talking about the next cycling race currently, we're most probably talking about the next Belgian classic, and that's the case again with Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024 on Wednesday (as the race is officially called, with its title in both Flemish and Walloon), before the Tour of Flanders on Sunday.
As with Ghent-Wevelgem last Sunday, outgoing winner Christophe Laporte is absent due to illness. Wout van Aert will be there on Wednesday, but the Belgian rider and his Team Visma | Lease a Bike have had rather bad luck in their Belgian classics campaign so far. Mathieu van der Poel will be absent, so it's sprinter Jasper Philipsen who the Alpecin-Deceuninck team can count on. Later in the article, you'll find the full list of starters for Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024.
Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024 features a 188.6-kilometer course, with 12 climbs and several cobbled sectors. In this article, you'll find details of the Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024 route, on a map on Open Street Maps, which is also available for download in Google Earth, the race profile, the hourly itinerary, and the list of starters for the Belgian race.

The course of Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024 on Open Street Maps
The start of Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre 2024 will be given from the station square, Stationsplein, in Roeselare, and via Ardooie, Oostrozebeke and the finish town of Waregem, the riders will then head for the Flanders hills, where there will also be some cobbled streets. Before passing through Kluisbergen, the first hill will be the Tiegemberg. This is followed by a long straight that takes the riders to Oudenaarde and the second climb, the Volkegemberg. Then begins a double tour against the hands of the clock, on slightly different routes, with several difficulties.
First, the riders find the Hotond, the feed zone and Knokteberg - Trieu sequence, and a little further on the climb of Kortekeer. Shortly after the cobbles of Mariaborrestraat, the first part of the race - shown in blue on the map - is completed, and they begin the second lap against the hands of the clock, shown in purple until they reach the last small loop around the finish.
In this second lap, they first climb Berg Ten Houte, soon followed by Kanarieberg. Descending towards Ronse, this second lap then climbs Knokteberg - Trieu in the same direction, but Hotond in the opposite direction, and they then turn north to find the same route as the first lap, just before the cobbles of Mariaborrestraat, which they leave again after passing through Maarkedal.
They then head north-west, via the Ladeuze climb and Oudenaarde, before moving on to several cobbled sectors and the Nokereberg climb, also cobbled. This is followed twice by the final counter-clockwise circuit, in which they temporarily leave the Waregemsesteenweg to go find the cobbles of the Herlegemstraat. Passing through Waregem, they then quickly visit the racecourse 'hippodrome' (as on the very first passage through Waregem), before returning to the point where they joined this circuit, and where they find the Nokere climb again, this time coming from the west.
Towards the end of the circuit, no passage through the racecourse this time, the riders then head for the finish line, which will be marked out on the Verbindingsweg in Waregem. At around 4.45pm (the finish is scheduled for between 4.31pm and 4.53pm), we'll know who will succeed Christophe Laporte!

In addition to Wout van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) mentioned in the introduction to this article, we mustn't forget the Lidl-Trek team, which has done very well during this Belgian classics campaign. Mads Pedersen is the favorite for the multi-colored team in this race, whileLaurence Pithie (Groupama-FDJ), Jordi Meeus (BORA-hansgrohe) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) also appear to be in good enough form to place in the top 10.
