After last week's time trials, the 2024 Road World Cycling Championships in Zurich will come to a close with the road races. While the elite women's road race is underway at the time of writing, it's the men's turn tomorrow.

Between Winterthur and Zurich they will cover a total of 273.9 km: around 85 km on the Winterthur section up to the first crossing of the finish line, then 189 km in 7 laps of the circuit around Zurich! (this same circuit is used for all races in line, including the elite women's race, who run it 4 times; it was also the circuit for the mixed relay).

In this publication, you'll find the detailed route of this race in line on an OpenStreetMap map, the race profile and the list of starters.

The course of the elite men's road race at the Zurich 2024 Road World Championships

The Elite Men's Road World Championships Zurich 2024 road race starts in Winterthur, and 4.5 km later they arrive at the kilometer 0 in Oberwinterthur, where they begin a first loop north-west of Winterthur, passing through Hettlingen, Hengart, Flaach and Berg am Irchel, before returning to Winterthur via Buch am Irchel and Neftenbach.

Back in Winterthur, they then head south and west over the Greifensee, which they first skirt, before branching off to Ebmatingen and Binz, where they rejoin the circuit around Zurich. After crossing the finish line for the first time, they will complete this circuit 7 times.

Both the approach to the final circuit and the circuit itself contain a number of difficulties, so the route is far from easy! The start is at 10.30 a.m., with the finish scheduled for shortly before 5.30 p.m.
