As the Vuelta a España 2024 gets underway with an individual time trial in the streets of Lisbon, Portugal, Team Visma | Lease a Bike is ready for the third and final Grand Tour of the season.

Sepp Kuss, outgoing winner of last week's Tour de Burgos

Faced with strong teams like Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe with Primož Roglič (already 3 times overall winner and 12 times stage winner, but still suffering from back pain following his crash at the Tour de France 2024) or UAE Team Emirates with the duo Joao Almeida and Adam Yates (who, in theory, are able to replicate Team Visma | Lease a Bike's feat of winning all 3 Grand Tours in one season) (or even Jay Vine, recent father), Sepp Kuss, despite being the outgoing winner of the race, does not consider himself the favorite for this 79th edition of the Vuelta a España (or Tour of Spain).

The situation is different from last year, when it wasn't Sepp Kuss but the duo of Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard who started out as Tour of Spain favorites, and where the American rider from the Dutch team took advantage of his role as outsider to enter a breakaway which proved decisive, before seeing his leading team-mates (not without hesitation) put themselves at his service to win the race!

In this interview, Sepp Kuss, recent winner of the Tour of Burgos, takes stock of his shape, explains what he thinks of the route and his chances of success in this Vuelta a España 2024:

Wout van Aert, keen to win again

His team-mate, Wout van Aert, while acknowledging that there are "hardly any stages for sprinters", would like to get back to winning, and is counting on the difficult stages that may end in a sprint to fulfill this expectation.
