The queen of the classics, Paris-Roubaix 2022, will take place this Sunday 17 April. For the 119th edition of the race, the organisor decided to modify the race route just a little bit compared to last year, for the first cobble stones sections: the Vertain (# 26) section finds back its longer version, just like the Saulzoir (# 24) section. The number of sections remains the same however (30) and 54.8 kilometers of cobble stones will be awaiting the riders. The total distance of the race will be 257.2 kilometers.
In the Hell of the North a very small thing can come ruin the race for a rider or come at hand for another. Nothing's thus decided upfront, it'll be this Sunday on the cobbles that the whole story will be written!

The 30 cobble stones sections of Paris-Roubaix 2022
With a race route which is just a little bit different from the one in 2021, the cobble stones sections are a bit different as well and, in addition to that, the Hem (# 2) section, the forelast of the cobble stones sections, has been qualified a little less difficult, at 2 stars instead of 3, after a recent restoration. The difficulty grades which have been attributed to the cobble stones sections after being judged by Thierry Gouvenou, director of the race, and Franck Perque, director of Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift this Tuesday have been announced in a press release which reproduces almost exactly the same grades as in the previous years for the other sections. Not really surprising when you know that the criteria taken into account for the attribution of these grades are the length (which usually doesn't change), the irregularity of the cobbles (which doesn't change or not much, except when there's a restoration as this year for section # 2), the general state of the section (which doesn't change much, especially when the weather is similar; there again the Hem section is an exception due to its restoration) and its place in the race (which hardly changes).# | location | length | km | grade |
