The rumours were going hard the past few days, but it's now official: the Tour de France 2027 will start in Schotland, and more precisely in Edinburgh. It'll however not stop there, because the Grand Départ of this 114th edition of the Tour de France will also visit 2 of the 3 other nations of the United Kingdom: Wales and England!

For now, the details of the stages of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2027 have not yet been announced, most logically we'll get to know more in November this year.

What's remarkable is that the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2027, 6th edition with this name, will follow its big brother in terms of Grand Départ, also with 3 stages in the United Kingdom, starting with Edinburgh in Schotland.

The Grands Départs of the Tours de France in 2027: Schotland, Wales and England - the United Kingdom in the spotlights

The Tour de France has already had two times its Grand Départ in England, in 2007 (with a prologue in London and a stage London > Canterbury) and in 2014 (with 3 stages, starting in Yorkshire: Leeds > Harrogate, York > Sheffield and Cork > London), after having already had some adventures with stages during the race, in 1974 (Plymouth > Plymouth as its 2nd stage, with a flash visit from Brittany) and 1994 (to celebrate the creation of the Channel tunnel, for the stages Dover > Brighton as its 4th stage and Portsmouth > Portsmouth as its 5th).

In 2027 it'll thus be full spotlights on the United Kingdom since it'll not only be the men, but also the women who will visit no less than 3 out of the 4 countries which make up the United Kingdom (only Northern Ireland will keep on waiting since it has never yet received the Tour de France)! Of course, the Tour de France 2027 and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2027 will take place at other periods in time: the Tour de France 2027 probably from Friday 2 till Sunday 25 July 2027 and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2027 maybe from Saturday 31 July (or Friday 30 July maybe) till Sunday 8 August 2027 (dates to be confirmed, the organisor hasn't announced them yet).

What they'll have in common is that the first stage will start in Edinburgh in Schotland (probably already with a place somewhere in England as its destination) and that with two other stages, the adventure of the Grand Départ will first bring them to England and than to Wales .. before arriving in France after a transfer and a rest day for the men on Monday 5 July 2027.
